Clinical Trials Unit
The Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) is a research department within the VA that helps coordinate the different research studies that are done at the VA. Our CTU department has been growing tremendously in the recent years as we continue to gain more and more studies in our pipeline. There are over 20 studies being worked on currently. The studies conducted at STLVA's CTU, are funded by the VA or by the Foundation, through various different private sources (ex: NIH, NCI, Astrazeneca etc.)
Clinical trials are necessary for developing new treatments, expanding or refining treatments that are already available, or identifying behavioral changes that can prolong the lives of people or help them feel or function better. Clinical trials are also conducted to understand normal human biology, to gain insights into various disease processes, and to identify factors that can contribute to health outcomes (NHLBI 2015; Rohrer 2014).
